Thank you for sharing!! I can definitely relate.. and as part of my “transformation” I have to give the city San Diego a bit of credible. See, like you, I used to live in a big metropolitan city (LA) where “fashion’ is a thing and people worry about appearances so much that they’re willing to break the bank to do it. While I was in the midst of it, I didn’t know I was influenced by that culture. But ever since I moved out to San Diego (and also away from any major malls..) I realized… I don’t have that kind of social temptations anymore because people here are so busy living – going to the beach, reading, surfing, rock climbing, just…. LIVING. SO kudos to you for recognizing the influence. That is always the first step to fighting it although it doesn’t necessarily make it easier…

Hey, if you ever get a new temptation for a bag or a pair of shoes. Email me! Perhaps I’ll do the same. And we can use social power and our intelligence to talk each other out of buying it. Let me know what you think!! It’ll be a frugal shopping accountability group! LOL

This is such a nice and inspiring read. I appreciate your honesty, and congrats on your big change. You definitely have come a long way in terms of financial literacy, and that’s something to be proud of. Cheers for more savings in 2018! Btw, love the classy casual outfit here dear!

I’m always curious about people who blog about fashion, and how it’s all financially feasible, but we very rarely see behind the curtain. Money is one of those taboo topics still, and people will always judge you if you spend money differently from them.

In terms of my financial journey, I have a solid money system down, and have always lived below my means. But what I struggle with is keeping up with the Joneses in NYC. We could afford to pay twice as much as we do in rent, and I could buy a designer handbag if I want, but I honestly wonder if people around me who do that just don’t have any savings or what! So basically, I struggle with temptations that “everyone else” is spending a certain way, and that I’m somehow the odd man out being too strict with my money. But then again, in NYC lots of people have family help, so you can’t really compare financial situations.

Hi Amy! Thank you for your kind words – this was a post that I really poured my heart and soul into. Also my longest post probably in the history of Cubicle Chic! And I can definitely relate to that pressure of being a blogger… especially when there are brands you want to work for but dont’ want to flat out ask for free stuff!! Your efforts and investments have paid off though.. I am seeing that you are working with bigger and more prominent brands. Kudos to you!!

And yes my husband is amazing support… I could not have done any of those without him. I am very grateful!

And Amen to your last comment 🙂

So honest and so much I can relate to.
