Online Style Curation Companies Save Us Time!

As a professional woman working full time, between keeping some sort of fitness routine and work-life balance, sometimes there simply isn’t time to go to the mall and shop. You know how sometimes we wished we had personal stylists that picked out things for us that they know 100% would fit and make us feel free? Well, online style curation companies do that!

I’ve heard two polar reactions toward this trend:

1.     What? I have to pay someone to go shopping for me? That takes all the fun out! I LOVE shopping! Why would I ever buy stuff and not be able to “shop”?

2.      What? I can have someone who knows what they’re doing to pick stuff out and mail them to me? I’m all ears!

This may be a no-brainer for some of you shopaholics out there (lol), others may need more reasoning and justification before you jumped on this bandwagon. I am actually kind of pro-online style curation at this point. I’ve tried a few different companies, most of them have worked out quite nicely. I would say about 20% of all my shopping nowadays are done through an online style curation company.

Here 5 reasons why I like to use online style curation services:

1.     Convenience

This is an obvious one – you won’t need to browse through online catalogs of numerous products and figure out sizing, color, fit, all on your own. You usually would have to share a little bit about what type of clothing or accessories you’re looking for through some kind of survey/questionnaire. Then, the stylist will put together a list of items for you. A box arrives at your door with everything that’s been curated for you!

2.     Break out of your style rut

This was one of the main driving forces for me when I started using online style curation services, specially DailyLook Elite. A few years ago, I started noticing that I was purchasing the same kind of items in different colors and different brands, and I always gravitate toward the same styles everywhere I shopped. I wanted to try out different styles but I also wanted to make sure am trying the RIGHT styles for me. My first box with Dailylook came with pieces in colors I NEVER reach for (see mustard orange blazer to the right) but turned out to be the best new color/style I needed to try!

3.     Learn about new brands

I like sticking to the same brands when it comes to shopping for clothes because you know you can expect the same fit and quality. Keeping up with new brands, especially a lot of the indie/novel brands that are popping up every day, is a daunting task. Through EUJEANCO, I learned about a new brand that made amazing jeans called Articles of Society. Through DailyLook, I learned about Just Black for equally amazing jeans. Both are in the $30-$60 price point. I know just the brands I’d be looking for next time I need to pick out jeans!

Four pairs of jeans from EUJEANCO that fit perfectly. The 5th pair (that I ended up keeping) is the muted pink pair I’m wearing below!

4.     Avoid the chaotic mall situation

If you live in Southern California or any major metropolitan city, you probably run into the situation that I do. It takes forever to find parking lot, super long lines to get cash register, long times at Starbucks… I hate lines. Therefore, I prefer shopping online!

5.     Reduce shipping waste

Did you know nearly 30% of all online purchases get returned to retailers? If I’m completely honest, it feels like I return more than 30% of things I buy online. With a style curation company, If the they designed the style questionnaire well and the stylist really takes time to know you and your style, what they pick for you should be PERFECT. It was the case with EUJEANCO for me – they sent me 5 pairs of jeans that all fit like a glove. Compared to returning 30% of what I buy back to the retailers, I want to have my purchases actually fit so I can keep them! (Here’s a promo code to save $15 from the $25 styling fee, which if you end up keeping the jeans, it will be applied toward the purchase of it!)

In addition, I’ve also tried Trunk Club & mm. LaFleur. While they definitely have quality pieces, in my personal experience their curation process fall short compared to DilayLook and EuJeanco’s. What’s your experience like with some of these online style curation services??

Disclaimer: I periodically receive styled boxes from Dailylook and get to keep a portion of the items. I received 1 styled box from EUJEANCO in exchange of my opinion and was gifted one out od the 5 pairs that I received.

Speaking Engagement…What Do I Wear??

If you read my post earlier this week on how I conquered my deadly fear in public speaking, you know that I was invited to speak at a fashion conference organized by Poshmark every year in the Fall. It wasn’t my first public speaking experience, but certainly the first time to speak in front of HUNDREDS of fashion obsessed ladies. I knew I had to bring my A-game in terms of my outfit.

DailyLook to my Rescue

So I partnered up with DailyLook, and used your Elite Box service to help me create the look that I wanted.

I told my stylist that I wanted lots of white in my outfit because I wanted to stand out in photos. I also told her that I needed outfits that conveyed authority but approachability at the same time. I liked rompers and flow-y materials.

I know. Kind of a tall order for them, right?. To make matters tricky, I’m known to be a finicky customer sometimes. But what the DailyLook team delivered was BEYOND amazing. I felt so comfortable in these clothes yet very, very confident. I’ll let you decide on your own… I felt like I had a personal stylist that curated these looks for me.

I’m not gonna lie. In San Diego, if it weren’t because of the emergence of pumpkin spice latte, I would have had no idea that Fall has befallen upon us! The change of season this year coincided with the start of a new job for me. Needless to say, I have been nonstop thinking about new things to add to my work wardrobe. The smart thing to do, though, is to find accessories and outerwear that turn summer outfits into fall-appropriate looks!

Start with a Simple Summer Outfit

I have partnered with Dailylook (see my post about their Elite Box here)  to show you how to “Fall Into” the new season with just one outfit! This simple floral top pair with the white jeans is very quintessentially “summer”. Casual Friday, girls night out, or just an errand around the town, are all events this outfit is perfect for.

Transform It into a Fall Appropriate Ensemble

With the help of a fall color trench coat, some booties, and a scarf, the same outfit is instantly Fall-appropriate, even in California!

What are your summer pieces that you are taking into the Fall? Here is a list of items that I know I will be carrying into the new season!

Why I Love DailyLook Elite Box Subscription Service (Promo Code Inside) https://inthemarginalia.com/blog/2016/08/why-i-love-dailylook-elite-box/ https://inthemarginalia.com/blog/2016/08/why-i-love-dailylook-elite-box/#respond Mon, 29 Aug 2016 15:16:42 +0000 http://mycubiclechic.com/index.php/2016/08/29/822why-i-love-dailylook-elite-box/ This post is a review of the DailyLook Elite Box Subscription Service. This post is a review of the DailyLook Elite Box Subscription Service. t’s a personalized styling service where, based on a very detailed questionnaire, a DailyLook Elite stylist curates monthly boxes of 7-11 items with each piece ranging from $45- $800. This Box is then sent to your door for a very personalized experience. The service is $40 per box, and it can be applied toward items that you end up keeping/purchasing. The box arrives at your door for you to try on, keep what you like, and send the rest back with prepaid packaging and shipping labels. Sounds interesting to you? Try it out with my promo code CUBICLECHIC20 – everything in your first box will be 20% off with this exclusive promo code!

DailyLook and I go way back

I first heard about them through Jen at ClothesEncounter; she showcased a few pieces on her Youtube channel 3 years ago. Since then, I’ve enjoyed shopping on the site, browsing individual items, or shopping the outfits.  All three outfits below are from DailyLook over the years. Remember my super glammed up Christmas look last year? All DailyLook!

What I initially liked about DailyLook was that almost everything you buy from them, you can see how the piece can be incorporated into multiple outfits. It just helps contextualize things, and you’re less tempted to buy something that you couldn’t even imagine how to wear.

DailyLook Elite Box Service

About a year or so ago, DL launched the Elite Box service, where an experienced stylist takes your input from an extensive questionnaire (see below) about your body shape and size, preferences, lifestyle, and interests to curate boxes of items for you every month. When I saw that, I just HAD to give it a try. I went on to have this service for 3 months and enjoyed the experienced SO much.

Diversifying My Closet

What I love about this service the most is that if your stylist is good, which in my experience they all have been, you will add pieces to your closet that you otherwise probably wouldn’t even approach. I’ve added to my closets a burgundy sweater, a body-con LBD, and a pink blazer. Oh, my outfit from last year’s PoshFest, the striped two-piece jumper is also from DailyLook!

Shop in my own home, AND try things on in my room!

I also love DailyLook for the convenient shipping, both ways, that allows you to go shopping in your own home AND try things on in your own bedroom. Whatever you don’t want to keep, you should it back with the packaging and labels they provided in the original package.

Comparison to Trunk Club

Just for reference, I have also tried using Trunk Club. It’s owned by Nordstrom, so as expected, it comes with very, very, very good customer service. But the styling just wasn’t up to par, after many attempts at communications that resulted in 3 different trunks, I decided to stop using Trunk Club. I have to say DailyLook Elite really stands out to me as the better service provider, whether be it the selection of items, quality of service, stylists’ taste in curating boxes, I personally would stick with the DailyLook Elite Box compared to Trunk Club.

If you want to try DailyLook Elite Box today, check out with my promo code CUBICLECHIC20 – everything in your first box will be 20% off with this exclusive promo code!

Disclaimer:

  • This post contains sponsored links from DailyLook where they keep track of clicks and orders that came from Cubicle Chic.
  • I received one box of curated items for free in exchange for a review of their service. However, I was purchasing items on my own prior to this collaboration between 2013 to the end of 2015.

It may sound like an oxymoron at first. How can girls that exude the #GIRLBOSS vibe be “nice”? These are not characteristics that we tend to associate together.

Sophia Amoruso may have written a book about it, but I have lived it. I’ve always embodied many of the components of what make up the #GIRLBOSS personality – firm, determined, unwaivered, highly professional, and very ambitious. Yet in the corporate world, you see all too often that strong minded women get categorized into the b*itchy bucket. It’s almost inevitable, and it really is a shame. That’s where being “nice” makes a difference.

Being nice is in the professional world is not about being easy-going or eager to please. And it’s definitely not letting people step all over you. It’s actually the ability to persuade other without force, to convey a message without having to scream, and solve a problem, reach a solution, without leaving dead bodies behind.

Having said all that, let’s come back to what I do best… putting together professional outfits to present the woman you want to be. Today,I’m sharing with you an outfit that makes me feel like a total #GIRLBOSS, and a very nice one at that.

There’s something to be said about the soft colors and femininity of a flowy scarf.

If you haven’t seen the first part of my holiday party outfit series, here it is. The amazing lace maxi dress was the first template I suggested, check it out!

Next up, the Jumpsuit and Faux Fur Coat combo!

Now, before you conclude that you are reading the blog written by a panda, hear me out.

Let’s talk about some of the common challenges in trying to create an outfit for this special holidasy occasion. For company holiday parties, staying classy and appropriate is of the utmost importance. Trying to look stylish and put-together while adhering to this rule of thumb is often the tricky part. Additionally, this faux fur coat, or faux fur coats in general, is challenging in that it makes me look top-heavy. So here are a few things I tried to be mindful of when creating this outfit.

1.       Use a jumpsuit to balance out the over-the-top glamour

Jumpsuits have the edginess that a dress or a skirt won’t give you. When pulling off a faux fur coat which are usually super glamorous and lavish, pair it with a cool-girl kind of jumpsuit that will prevent the overall outfit from looking over the top.

2.       Keep it simple color-wise

With the oomph of the fur coat and the edginess of the jumpsuit, the last thing you want to do is to add more dimension to the outfit. Keep it within black and white like I do, and have no more than two colors at a time in your outfit. Additionally, the pinstripe pattern gives the outfit a professional and formal look, so that’s also a good variation to add.

3.       Stay elongated with high heels

This one is a no-brainer. Unless you have legs like Kate Moss or Gisele Bündchen, wear those 4 inch heels. I’ll be the first one to admit that none of my outfits would’ve looked passable without those heels… they’re painful, but totally worth it.
