PoshFest is the annual conference for the fashion merchandising app call Poshmark.  I went to PoshFest 2015 in San Francisco last year and had a blast meeting many PFF’s (posh friends forever). It was a no brainer fore me when they announced that that this year’s PoshFest will be in October, and taking place in LA, especially when it’s a  just 2 hour-drive from San Diego!

To start planning for the trip, some of you may be thinking about your outfits already now that the event is 60 days away! I had the same concerns last year about what’s appropriate, and was googling to no avail. So this year I decided to chime in as a PoshFest veteran.

P.S. For those of you flying in, check out my post from last month on travel tips!

There are three things to keep in mind when prepping your outfits for PoshFest 2016

1) You will be walking around quite a lot from the seminar sessions to the workshops! So keep your purses/handbags handy and relatively small, and heels comfortable! (4 inch heel or flats, whatever YOUR comfort level is!)

2) Remember to incorporate your brand! Whether you have a retail closet, a blog, or a company you own, remember to let your outfit speak about the brand you represent!

3) Bright colors > Dark colors. This is kind of a personal opinion, but I do think lighter color (think whites, light gray, beige, and any other bright colors) outfits tend to make you stand out more, and therefore more memorable!

Below are three inexpensive outfits I came up with that will keep your ensemble chic and your impression on-fleek!

P.S. The images are clickable!

PoshFest Outfit #1: Classic, Professional, and Clean

PoshFest Outfit #2: Feminine, Soft, and Fun

PoshFest Outfit #3: Stylish, Edgy, and Cool

PoshFest Outfit #4: Casual, Clean, and Bright

PoshFest Outfit #5: Trendy, chic, and comfortable

I wanted to pair this outfit with shoes that would elongate me, so I went with my most recent Valentino Rockstud purchase that I made during Thanksgiving… And of course a part of me just wanted the occasion to wear them 😛

I have more of these classic work outfits coming up.. stay tuned and let me know what you think!

For those of you wondering what PoshFest is, it’s an annual gathering for avid users of an app called Poshmark. Poshmark allows you to sell and buy women’s fashion items in used or new condition. I’ve previously blogged about my experience using Poshmark here. PoshFest is a two day event that’s designed to educate Poshmark users on how to take your closet business to the next level. Mixed into the event are seminars featuring panel speakers that are power sellers on the app and industry experts, and also networking sessions that allow poshers to get to know each other in a pretty intimate setting (speed networking, anyone?). In fact, we were all encouraged to bring our business cards. Below is a quick series of photos that gives you a glimpse of the fabulousity of this event (photography by  Anna-Alexia Photo):

I want to talk about why I had wanted to go to PoshFest in the first place and what I was expecting from the event. I’ve been on Poshmark since December 2012, so it’s been around 3 years since I’ve been actively poshing. In the last three years I’ve sold over over $7000 worth of stuff, mostly from my own closet. I’ve become a “suggested user” and amassed over 200K followers on the app, which some would consider a small success. My blog Cubicle Chic was born out of the encouragement I received from fellow Poshmark users and the realization that there is an online community that is engaging and supportive. So when I found out about this year’s PoshFest I immediately signed up. I was hoping to put faces to the closets I’ve been sharing, and to start building a network in the fashion industry.

Having said that, it wasn’t an easy decision to make. I knew I would be going alone after a quick survey of friends and family. Striking up conversation with strangers and engaging in small talks aren’t my strong suit, so I’ve always found these types of events intimidating. Not to mention I’ll be mingling with 200+ other ultra fashionable and fierce business women. The thought of going alone was frightening to say the least.

But I still went. And that was the best decision I’ve made in a LONG time. Here are a few photos to prove that:

I’ve met so many fellow poshers this time that I know will be long term friendships.I honestly don’t know where else I would’ve met these fabulous, smart, sassy and fierce ladies if it wasn’t for PoshFest! For that, I am forever grateful.

Something else that I got to understand from this event is that this community is really based on something fundamentally good. Manish, the CEO of Poshmark calls it love (see below). I call it relentless positivity. Poshmark’s business model is based on members’ active sharing of each other closet. Without this, there is no revenue or sales for the company. This proactive sharing and mutual fostering of each other’s success is what makes this business successful (even though I’m surprised to find from one of the founders Tracy that this company  isn’t yet profitable). It’s no wonder that there is a community so full of encouragement and positivity. Each and every Poshmark team members came across as genuine, warm, and sincere. It couldn’t possibly be a facade. I was there to feel it myself!

All in all I am very glad that I decided to go. I met so many people that are driven, dedicated, stylish, and just downright nice. If it was up to me, the world should be filled with these kinds of people and only these kinds of people. Looking forward to PoshFest 2016!

For those of you who also went, what were your thoughts??

Today on Cubicle Chic I wanted to talk to you about something  that is close and dear to my everyday life. It’s an app called Poshmark, and the influence it’s had on me and my shopping behavior. Read on if you want clear out closet space, find discounted luxury goods, and make friends while you’re at it! Here are 4 ways that Poshmark has permanently changed my shopping behavior. It could change yours too!

Things I have bought from or sold on my Poshmark closet

1. For expensive and trendy items, always check Poshmark first!

If you follow any fashion blogs or news sites, you are probably constantly bombarded with the latest trends and IT items to buy. Let’s face it, your will power only takes you so far. Before you know it you’re giving in, taking the plunge and spending that money that’s REALLY supposed to go to your savings. And after all the ordering and shipping and opening the package, you’re already eyeing the next purse, pair of shoes, or fashion accessory that has you lusting all over it…

Except, with Poshmark’s help, you can David-and-Goliath your way out of pickle (kind of proud of this sentence). I have developed the habit of always checking the availability of something new and trendy that I’m lusting over on Poshmark, before I head over the Shopbop, Farfetch, or Nordstrom.com and click the ORDER button.

Here are a few things you might be so tempted to buy new but can find discounted (sometimes used, sometimes new) ones on Poshmark. Mansur Gavriel bucket bag? Here. Aquazurra shoes? Here. Kendra Scott earrings? Here. DVF wrap dress? Here. Rag & Bone booties? Here. And the list literally goes on, and on, and on…

If you haven’t already, I suggest you take your to-buy list, and check all the items one by one on Poshmark. You might be surprised what you find there!

2. Before making a new purchase, always ask “Can I resell this on Poshmark when I get tired of it? Will it have good resale value?”

As a continuation of the last topic, Poshmark also helps make me feel less guilty about purchasing something if I know I can re-sell it in the future when I grow tired it, or find out that a it doesn’t really fit my life style (as is always the case with shoes).  Or, if I know I am onto a particular style/type of item relatively early, I will feel better snatching it at full retail price knowing the demand is growing and I will be able to get my investment back by listing it on Poshmark when I decide to part ways with it.

Some examples of such trendy type of purchases that I was able to pass onto other fashionistas on Poshmark include several pairs of Rayban mirrored sunglasses, the Chiara Ferragne “Flirt” Slip-ons, the Quay “My Girl” sunglasses, the Michael Kors Selma bag, and the YSL Arty ring. These were all things that I knew weren’t going to come down on price too soon, and will continue to be desirable for a while so I bought them at retail, and re-listed on Poshmark after I’d moved onto other shiny things.

3. Too much loss to take to thrift stores but taking up unnecessary closet space?

If you have a shopping problem like I do (I did put the word “confession” in the title of this entry), you know this problem all too well. It was a good deal, it was a GREAT item, and it was what everyone was talking about! The only problem is it 1) doesn’t fit, or 2)you don’t have the occasion for it, or 3) never lost the weight you SWORE you were going to lose. Whatever the problem, this item remains in your closet. It brings a smile or two to your face when you think about how happy you were when you first bought it, but takes up the space in your closet and room that can hold OTHER items that will bring MORE smiles to your face! See how easily

Do not despair! Your solution is this little app called Poshmark. Take some nice photos of this item (find tips for photo styling here), type up your love story with it, and post it on Poshmark. Someone, no matter how long it takes, will give it its due attention as long as it’s something that’s in good shape and is truly desirable.  I’ve passed on many pairs of impulse shoe and sunglasses buys this way, and made friends and happy customers alike as a result.

4. Fangirling so hard after a fashion blogger (e.g. Wendy’s Lookbook, Claire Marshall, Le Fashion Monster), I wish I could raid her closet! Wait a second…??

With the ever expanding Poshmark community, more and more fashionistas are joining in, and many fashion bloggers who are practically household names these days, are no exception. Some of the most famous bloggers I personally follow have made their way to Poshmark where you and I can literally raid their closet!

I hope you found this article useful. Let me know if you have a poshmark account! I’ll be sure to follow and share your items 🙂 as we say on Poshmark, Sharing is Caring!

P.S. I am going to be attending the 2015 PoshFest, Poshmark’s annual meet-up, in San Francisco this year! It takes place on 11/7 & 11/8 so it’s fast approaching. Leave me a note if you’re going too!!
